  1. Though its over 6 years ago the briefings I had (then part of the NHS) also pointed out that these specific “gangs” were noteworthy in the sheer number of their victims. Case that go to court will have a few “complainants” because the trials are too unwieldy otherwise (raising the prospect of confusing juries) Thus in the year previous to the briefings the MoJ had estimated from the data from the courts, Police and “Serious case reviews (Social services) that there were 10,000 victims of these “asian” gangs. Half of whom were either in care or on local lists of vulnerable children (what used to be called Child Protection lists). The big difference with other forms of gangs” is these typically have more perpetrators than victims and have a tight circle around what they know is illegal with big consequences if caught. The huge numbers of victims and the fact that gang members “felt they were untouchable” as a number of Judges have remarked in summing ups, makes these gangs very distinct. It is also why they do get prosecuted when the authorities actually act, because the “asian” gangs have done little to conceal their activities.
