There really are two “worlds” in the UK. One in which in reality families tend to aspire to and follow the “traditional” patterns of responsibilities and another “alternative” world of people indulging in all sorts of experimental and “diverse” patterns. This piece points out the big difference between being (or feeling) the one responsible to ensure the family’s material security and making a contribution to it. The latter often the case with young couples these days to afford housing in particular. There is in particular a huge mismatch between the aspirations that young people in general have and public policy and idealised notions of individualism. As the younger generation of my extended family pair up and have babies they slip into the traditional pattern, even the rock and roller couple. No matter how “woke” they were in their teens and early 20s.

Feminists, not noted for their filters, often disclose what they really believe about the female role in the great scheme of things, with men as disposable supporting actors. “The purpose of living is merely to persist and perpetuate our species. If someone is willing to give you all you require to survive and live comfortably, simply because you exist, then you have already achieved all that truly matters.”
Well, they had that. It was called marriage. And, before women entered the workforce, exerting downward pressure on wages and upwards pressure on housing costs, men accommodated women’s demands made upon them, that they should:

The truth about feminism is this: women aren’t happy in their ‘careers’. As Suzanne Venker points out in her article: “Women don’t work out of desire to provide for a husband.”
Women work so that they can place themselves in proximity to higher-value men, with all men beneath her pay-grade being invisible.
She might marry a higher value man. But, he, too, becomes invisible if she gets a promotion. Separation and divorce will be only months away. Saw this umpteen times in the workplace, over the course of three decades. It didn’t ever end well.
It’s not really working out for feminists. They must work, instead of the old tradition of having men provide them with babies, a roof over their head, and marital service. Fewer and fewer men are taking the bait. And who can blame them..?
