  1. As the eldest in a single parent family one of my chores was the washing. This involved a tub machine, a wringer and a spinner, the latter had a tendency to wander so had to be kept under a close watch. These days all I have to do is sort the washing pop it in the machine put in powder (still old fashioned)select a programme and press start. And get on with anything I want as the machine gets on with it. In effect all she is doing is folding. I remain skeptical of all this domestic goddess stuff written about themselves by journalists. The truth is housework is “meditative” because it is pretty light these days. Frankly men who think their wife or partner is “slaving away” is being taken for a mug.
