Not many people know that my favourite form of relaxation is comedy, particularly stand-up comedy. I subscribe to Netflix – about £8.50 per month – almost solely because of their comedy offering, notably their stand-up specials. I admire the Canadian comedienne Katherine Ryan, who’s based in the UK, although I admire her less over time because ever more of her material is feminist in nature and therefore man-hating and about as funny as major dental work without the relief of local anaesthetic.
I’ve subscribed to Amazon Prime for some years – about the same price as Netflix, plus I get stuff delivered at no extra cost, sometimes later the same day. Because I decided to take the evening off for once, I’ve just checked out Amazon’s comedy offering for the first time.
… and I was so pleased I did. After a bit of searching I decided to watch an Amazon special of Jeff Leeson, a Canadian comedian, perform at a venue in London… er… London, Canada. It’s titled, Grandma Used to Heckle Me. I’ve never seen a comedian better at interacting with an audience. Catch it if you can, even if you have to subscribe to Amazon Prime for a month, then cancelling it. If you don’t subscribe to Amazon Prime, then enjoy this trailer (video, 4:37). I can’t recall ever seeing a stand-up comedian introduced by his own mother. Her reaction at the end of his gig is priceless. (4:07 in the trailer).
