Our thanks to Mike P for this. The woman’s lawyer pleaded mitigating circumstances which it would have been futile to plead if it had been the woman’s partner who committed the crime. The end of the piece:
The judge told Bearfield: ‘I have decided it would not be right or conscionable for something you did two years ago to immediately deprive you of your liberty.’ [J4MB: This begs the obvious question, “WHY have you decided that?”]
Bearfield was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended for 18 months, and must have up to 25 days rehabilitation.
