In a similar vein to the last piece, and this time with literally no connection to men’s issues, I once had a friend take a photograph of a wonderful Welsh friend, Christine – sadly no longer with us – and myself standing with empty wine glasses and forlorn expressions by the sign before the Northamptonshire hamlet of Nobottle. Around the same time I took photos of my children – then maybe 9 or 10 years old, in the mid 1990s – by the sign before the village of Silverstone, also in Northamptonshire. Next to it was a sign with the message, “Please drive carefully”. The Silversone Circuit is the home of the British Grand Prix.
In my internationally bestselling French travelogue Two Men in a Car: A Businessman, a Chauffeur, and Their Holidays in France (2008) the last photo in the plate section is of my chauffeur and myself standing next to the sign for a commune in the Jura Mountains – Pratz.
