Labour Unveil Sexist Pink Budget Battle “Bus”
Feminist aborts baby because it was a boy: ‘Something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy,’ she says.
In our election manifesto we make a number of proposals with respect to abortion. One of the reasons for proposing a reduction in the maximum term for elective abortions from 24 weeks to 13 weeks (other than on the grounds of reducing the risk to the physical health of mothers) is that the gender of foetuses is not clear at 13 weeks. Elective abortions being carried out after 13 weeks to end the lives of foetuses on gender grounds would become illegal. This story concerns an American woman’s decision to have an elective abortion in her fifth month of pregnancy solely because the foetus was male.
Stephanie Laughlin nominates herself for a ‘Gormless Feminist of the Month’ award
We try not to waste the time of followers of this site by posting links to endless silly pieces being written about J4MB by feminists, but we do enjoy pieces that feminists have clearly spent time and effort on, yet are none the less silly for it.
A prime example has just come to our attention. Stephanie Laughlin is studying Public Relations at McGill University, Montreal, and earlier this evening she posted a piece titled Mike Buchanan’s not the man you’re looking for. In doing so, she’s nominated herself – perhaps unwittingly – for our ‘Gormless Feminist of the Month’ award. The latest award certificate is here.
Her article is a classic of its type. On the plus side, she’s provided link to materials such as our election manifesto. On the other hand she misrepresents much of what we stand for, and time is too short to critique the whole piece. But we particularly enjoyed this:
A quick scan of the J4MB website shows that Buchanan posts emails from the type of fans that compare feminists to dogs.
She’s right. We have done that – once, anyway. We assume few readers of her piece will bother to check out the link, which is a shame. If they did so, they’re find this. Enjoy.
There are three female suicide attempts for every male suicide attempt. True or false?
The male:female suicide rate differential in the UK almost doubled between 1982 – 2012, from 1.69:1 to 3.3:1. The differential would be larger – possibly much larger – if the disproportionate number of men killing themselves through excessive alcohol consumption, risky behaviours etc. was included.
The fact that three times more women than men ‘attempt’ suicide has long been explained by suicide prevention charities as resulting from women’s greater expectation of support following ‘cries of help’ – e.g. swallowing a large number of paracetamol tablets, then calling 999 for an ambulance – than men would have. But is the 3:1 ‘attempted suicide attempt differential’ based on empirical evidence? At least in the US – and why would it be very different in the UK? – the answer would appear to be a resounding No.
Belinda Brown responds to Holly Baxter
The estimable Belinda Brown recently wrote a piece, ‘Family-friendly Feminism’, for Demos Quarterly, the online publication of Demos, a cross-party think tank. Holly Baxter, a New Statesman blogger, criticised the piece, and Demos have published Belinda’s response. Enjoy.
Laura Perrins: FGM fiasco shows that the DPP is a feminist playground
An excellent piece by Laura Perrins for The Conservative Woman.
Alison Saunders is an ideologically-motivated anti-male DPP, and should be fired for precisely that reason.
Lily Cole’s £200,000 taxpayer-funded website descends into farce
Our thanks to Guido Fawkes for this. The government can’t find any money to fund refuges for men battered by their partners, but it CAN find £200,000 to finance a supermodel’s vanity project.
Belinda Brown: The toxic legacy of Superwoman: Career women insist feminism means ALL women having jobs, but could that belief blight the lives of mothers – and their children?
Our thanks to numerous supporters for alerting us to an excellent article by Belinda Brown in the Daily Mail.
J4MB calls for Alun Michael, Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales, to resign
We recently called for the resignation of Vera Baird, Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Northumbria. The letter we sent her is here.
Today we’re calling for the resignation of a second PCC.
Alun Michael was a Labour MP before taking on the role of PCC for South Wales in 2012. We are today calling for his resignation in the light of comments he made in a letter in the South Wales Echo, responding to an earlier letter from Anne O’Regan. In our view, he appears to have contravened three promises he made in his Oath of Office. We’re about to email him this letter.
