NHS plans to DNA test all babies to assess disease risk – time to introduce mandatory paternity testing at birth.

Our thanks to Tony for this. A cheek swab from inside the father’s cheek and all is in place for a paternity test. Mandatory paternity testing should have been introduced decades ago. Our last general election manifesto has a section on paternity fraud (pp.48-50), a crime for which no woman has ever been prosecuted by the Crown.

MPs narrowly back legalising assisted dying in England and Wales by 23 votes (314 – 291)

A piece on the BBC. A useful guide to how every MP voted (or didn’t vote) is here. Starmer voted for the Bill, Badenoch (C) against it, Ed Davey (LD) abstained. For Reform UK, Richard Tice and Sarah Pochin voted for it, while Nigel Farage, Lee Anderson and James McMurdock voted against.

The Bill will face a lot of scrutiny and challenging in the House of Lords, in part because it’s a private member’s bill and wasn’t in the Labour party manifesto at the last general election. That said, the same was true in 1967 – Liberal Party MP David Steel proposed a private member’s bill on abortion. There had been no mention of an intention to pass a Bill on abortion in the Labour party’s 1966 general election manifesto (Harold Wilson was the party leader).

Nancy Pexton, 69, is accused of killing her sister Jennifer Abbott, 70, in London on June 10 when a valuable diamond Rolex watch went missing

A piece (£) just published less than an hour ago by The Times. An earlier piece on the BBC, which named Nancy Pexton but failed to say she was Jennifer Abbott’s sister.

Inside Britain’s top secret nuclear bunker where DEI thrives

An interesting piece in yesterday’s Times. The facility is at the Atomic Weapons Establishment in Aldermaston in Berkshire. Scientists are preparing to work on the next generation of atomic warheads. Enriched uranium and plutonium are held under a state of high security, police patrol with the same assault rifles used by the SAS. £15 billion are being spent on supervising the facility, which has 9,500 employees.

The article reports that at Aldermaston salaries average £45,500, 20% higher than the UK average, yet they are still desperate [J4MB: I think they mean struggling] to recruit. Women from diverse backgrounds and the neuro-diverse are among those being targeted. [J4MB emphasis: Maybe that’s why they’re struggling to recruit?] At present, only 20 per cent of the workforce is female, according to the female engineering director.
