One in ten GP partners earns at least £250k a year.
An interesting piece in yesterday’s Times. An extract:
“Since May the British Medical Association (BMA) has encouraged GPs to take steps to reduce their workload, including refusing requests from hospitals to take on the care of patients with prostate cancer and heart conditions.”
100% of patients with prostate cancer and most (60%+) with heart conditions are men.
Most GPs in the UK today are women, and the proportion is rising as older GPs (mainly men) are retiring.
The BMA website has a page on EDI, the BMA has a network of elected women and operates the BMA women initiative.

Andrew Gilligan: “Meet Jason Arday’s Cambridge colleague, Farah Ahmed.”
Interesting. Gilligan’s article in The Spectator (£), published today, is here. It starts with this:
“After the Jason Arday disaster, here is new evidence that things have gone deeply wrong at Cambridge University.
We can reveal that a former supporter of Hizb ut-Tahrir, now banned as a terror group, has been appointed assistant research professor of education at Cambridge, in the same faculty as Arday.
Farah Ahmed has explicitly attacked ‘western education’ as a ‘threat’ to Muslims, condemned democracy and integration, and criticised British schools for teaching pupils that child marriage is wrong. During her time at Cambridge, she has written that the Islamic concept of education is sharply opposed to ‘gaining literacy and numeracy and other disciplinary skills demonstrated through qualifications’.”

“Sentencing, Judge Garrett Byrne said: ‘You were over the legal limit, considerably so, and you were rightly arrested and cautioned. You then put the key in the ignition and made to drive off. PC Ward took hold of your hands to stop you.
‘You then placed the vehicle in drive and drove forwards with PC Ward being dragged along, shouting that you were going home. You travelled about six car lengths before the officer was able to incapacitate you. Your behaviour continued by lashing out at him.
‘PC Ward describes desperately trying not be dragged under the vehicle. He now suffers from very serious and lifelong injuries. Your behaviour here was absolutely appalling.
‘Your reckless actions did not just cause serious and permanent injuries to a public servant, someone acting on behalf all of us to protect us, keeping the roads safe from people such as yourself, who are prepared to drink and drive, but you could have killed him. This is a very, very serious matter indeed.’ [J4MB emphasis.]
The judge added: ‘You have four children, two of whom have special needs.
‘Although you did not give them sufficient thought that day, I have to. And for that reason and that reason alone, I will suspend the sentence.'” [J4MB emphasis. The bottom line? Domestic responsibilities made this woman unaccountable for her actions. What was the point of the trial, if not to apply an appropriate punishment for a grave action carried out when the woman was almost three times over the blood alcohol limit?]
