  1. This is interesting, right from the opening sentence. Because when a girl reports ‘feeling good about herself’, the actual metric is the level of oestrogen in the neuroendocrine system. This, together with progesterone (which induces opposite mood effect) is changing cyclically, irrespective of external events. Oestrogen is raising levels of dopamine and serotonin. In fact, oestrogen receptors will atrophy and die in the absence of oestrogen.

    This means that even Princess Merida will experience crises of confidence at certain times of the month, and won’t be ‘Brave’. It’s all very confusing for those whom she is supposed to be leading.

    Women suffer from extremes of inconsistency, which were irrelevant in domesticity, but do not make them good leaders when they venture outside. Who knew..?
