Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals The Story Behind Candle That ‘Smells Like My Vagina’

Our thanks to Warren for this. An extract:

“Gwyneth Paltrow teamed up with Heretic Parfum founder Douglas Little to create her Goop brand’s controversial “This Smells Like My Vagina” candle in 2020. The product had notes of geranium, citrusy bergamot, cedar absolutes, Damask rose, and ambrette seed.”

Paltrow would appear to have a most unusual-smelling vagina, possibly unique. Another extract:

“Paltrow noted Little launched the product on her website after she jokingly gave him her approval and they broke the internet with “This Smells Like My Vagina.” Despite the candle starting as a joke, the TV personality refused to take it down for a unique reason.

“I kept it on the site because there is an aspect to women’s sexuality that I think we’re socialized to feel a lot of shame. And I sort of loved this kind of punk rock idea.We are beautiful, and we are awesome, and go f-ck yourself,” Paltrow explained, earning more cheers from the crowd.

She received more praise in the comment section of the Instagram post, with fans hailing her for standing her ground and launching an unconventional product.

“There’s a quiet power in a woman who speaks her truth like that. It resonates deeply, like a reminder of something we’ve always known,” someone wrote.”

And these people have had the same votes as men in the UK for almost a century? That can’t be right, to put it mildly. Maybe we should reduce them to half a vote and see how that goes for a few years, before making a decision on the longer term? Please send me your thoughts on the matter. Thanks.

Brian Wilson, 82, RIP

I was sad to learn of this. In 1975, at the age of 17, I watched one of the most amazing multi-act gigs of my life at Wembley stadium, described here. Elton John was the headlining act. The Beach Boys appeared as the sun was starting to set, and it was just magical, as if we’d all been transported to 1960s California. Earlier acts included Stackridge, Chaka Khan, Joe Walsh and Eagles (who Walsh was shortly afterwards to join). The feeling in the audience after the Beach Boys’ appearance was that even Elton John couldn’t follow that, but we were wrong. His act was sensational, ending with (if memory serves me correctly) Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting.

Happy days.

Enya

The start of the Wiki page on Enya:

Eithne Pádraigín Ní Bhraonáin (born 17 May 1961; anglicised as Enya Patricia Brennan) known mononymously as Enya, is an Irish singer and composer. With an estimated equivalent of over 80 million albums sold worldwide,[3] Enya is the best-selling Irish solo artist, and the second-best-selling music act from Ireland overall, after only the rock band U2. Her music has been widely recognised for its use of multi-layers of her own vocals and instrumentation, lengthened reverb, and interwoven elements of Celtic music.”

In 1997 she bought (in an auction) the Victorian-era castle she renamed Manderley Castle. From the Wiki page on the castle:

“Irish musician Enya bought the castle in 1997 for €3.8 million ($4.1 million USD), reportedly outbidding Michael Flatley, who also viewed the house. Based on her interest in Daphne du Maurier‘s Rebecca, Enya renamed the castle “Manderley” for the fictional house that plays a central role in the 1938 novel.”

Our thanks to Tom for this very short video, The 64-year-old Irish singer Enya has never been married and never had kids, and lives in a castle with her cats. Sad.

50 pro-choice groups oppose Stella Creasy’s abortion amendment

Interesting. An extract takes up the rest of this blog piece:

“The amendment has also been heavily criticised by anti-abortion campaigners, who say it would amount to the most extreme liberalisation of the law since the 1967 Abortion Act.

The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) said NC20 could allow abortions on the basis of a baby’s sex [J4MB: This is already allowed de facto up to 24 weeks, a woman just needs not to state this as a factor in her decision to have the unborn child killed.] and would remove protections that allow abusers who harm unborn children to be prosecuted.

SPUC said the amendment, along with another tabled by MP Tonia Antoniazzi, represents “the greatest threat to unborn children and their mothers since the Abortion Act”.

You can donate to SPUC here. Thank you.

BBC Bosses Draw Up Plans to Win Over Reform Voters by Changing News and Drama Output

Hilarious. The start of the piece in Byline Times:

“The BBC’s Director General Tim Davie and other senior bosses at the BBC have drawn up plans to win over voters of Reform UK, due to a belief that their news and drama output is creating “low trust issues” with supporters of Nigel Farage’s party.” [J4MB’s message to Davie: “No shit, Sherlock!”]

So, what’s driving the BBC to even consider such a change in output, which will never happen, obviously? Perhaps… just perhaps… it’s that Reform UK are the only party that would scrap the BBC license fee.

Madness on stilts. The joke:

Andrey repeated the joke, originally written by Dahl, in front of a number of classmates, saying: “Why is it difficult to make telephone calls in China? Because there are so many Wings and so many Wongs, you might Wing the Wong number.”
