This story is widely reported. Olympian Curtis Robb cleared of coercive behaviour towards wife – BBC News As usual the reporting is quite selective. Repeating the wife’s accusations even though these were disproved in Court. Its a case local to me so I’ve linked to the BBC report which includes links to their previous reports. In them you see that in fact the wife was coercive to Curtis Robb. Of course he believed he was “mentally strong enough” to put up with her behaviour in order to keep things appearing normal for their children. In this you see two of the common strands in why men don’t report their coercive partners a. They want to keep the peace and not blow the family apart for the sake of their children. b. That they believe they should be able to take on the mental abuse for the sake of the family unit c. they don’t believe anyone will take seriously incidents when a wife hits them. Actually read through its a classic example of a woman coopting the current ideologically driven criminal justice system to “her side” in a campaign to punish him and in this case complete the project of separating him from his children. Thank goodness the Jury didn’t believe her lies. Of course there won’t be a prosecution of her for her coercive behaviour, not least because Curtis Robb will no doubt not want to go through such a process and anyway will no doubt not want to further upset his children. Overall its a lesson in how easy it is for a woman to get the authorities on her side if she invokes “Coercive Control” against a husband/partner. Makes one wonder how often in just such a scenario the actual abuser, her, is believed.
