As war rages in Iran, woke MoD asks troops: ‘Guys, do you want to wear make-up and nail polish?’

Our thanks to Nigel for this. He writes:

“Meanwhile in “woke” Britain. I have to say I’m sympathetic to this idea. It is after all “gender equal”. And reflects the slide in standards in all ways and places to make occupations female friendly. The most interesting thing is that no one wants to suggest that the other way of making the standards equal and fair is to apply the standards for men to women! Of course all of this reflects the reality that in fact women are invited in not as equals, but to create an appearance. Surely there is every reason for all soldiers to be neat tidy and without adornments that get in the way of their often arduous and difficult job. The idiocy was in not applying these requirements for some solders just because they’re female. It is a reasonable question, “if these standards are not essential to the job, as they can’t be if not applied to every recruit, then is there is no need for them?” and if they are necessary why not applied to females? Direct discrimination. Someone would have a good case under the Equality Act. Our national defence in safe hands?”

  1. Though this has humorous overtones, it reminded me of the MPFC army sketch “Squad, by the right, Camp it up .. march” . There is a serious point. Arthur Schopenhauer observed that the way to deal with idiocies and idiots was not to counter argue but to take their ideas to the extreme and thereby force them to justify the resultant absurdity. This case being a good example where the men have the same restraints and responsibilities, that have good reason, that they have always had. While the women have additional privileges and rights to self expression denied their male colleagues. Demanding actual equality starts to make it obvious that this is the case. The “TERf” wars are another as if “gender” is performative then anyone can perform. To fight it feminists then have to demand sperate sports, spaces etc on the basis of actual sex differences , which they demanded be ignored before as “irrelevant”. Just like the school boys who each year demand the “right’ to wear skirts in hot weather I think it does good if men simply demand equality, the same requirements, privileges and rules, however absurd the results may appear. Because the more the absurdities are exposed the more their hold weakens.

As so many observe in a myriad of different ways the requirements on males have changed little, be stoical, provide(through taxes if not directly), build, repair, maintain, don’t complain etc. While women have all manner of privileges, extra help, freedoms, rights and choices that simply aren’t available to men. Hence the panic that men “don’t approach” or “won’t commit” because the edifice of female rights and privileges relies on men continuing to “take care of business”, what would happen if men had time off “to find themselves”, or “dress just for me”, or prioritise “me time” over their work. Or indeed had the right to dress like a drag queen on military manoeuvres?

As Schopenhauer points out those led by emotions and feelings are impervious to reason and logic. Rather deliberately take them down to road to the absurdity of their claims. Like demanding the male menopause is a reason for the same privileges and adjustments at work as for menopausal women!

  2. https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/british-army-now-has-women-serving-at-every-rank/ So lots of amazing women in the Army. However while they are celebrating DEI and being “representative” the Army is massively under strength and by the admission of successive Ministers not prepared for more than a couple of weeks action. Perhaps had the recruitment concentrated on recruiting from the areas linked for generations to regiments, rather than wasting vast resources on “woke” adverts and campaigns and reducing fitness standards to let women “pass” the whole thing would be less “representative” and actually fully capable.
