  2. In the US the welfare benefits,such as ‘single parents’ , vary from state to state. While here the much more generous welfare benefits to “single mums” have just had a substantial boost. The point is that in much of the US the burden of supporting the “mother and her children” family falls on the fathers. In this country the burden falls more on the tax payer ( as we know mainly men) as well as the father. One way or another supporting that idea from the 1970s that “the family” is only the mother and her child is done by getting men to pay, one way or another.
