“You have no excuse for your actions”: Leanne Cowell, 39, drunk woman four times over the drink drive limit. Suspended sentence.

Our thanks to Steve for this. The full article:

A woman who had drunk four times the legal drink drive limit has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Wigan magistrates heard how Leanne Cowell, aged 39, of Barrie Way, Hall i’th’ Wood, Bolton, was caught driving a Nissan Micra on Crompton Way, Bolton, on January 30. Tests showed she had 140mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal driving limit is 35mcg.

Cowell pleaded guilty to drink driving and was banned from the roads for three years and sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months during which she must undertake 150 hours of unpaid work.

Magistrates told Cowell: “You were incapable of being in proper control of your vehicle and you put yourself and other road users at risk of serious injury or death.

“You have no excuse at all for your actions.

“If you wish to drink to excess then the common sense rule would be not to drive any motor vehicle.” [J4MB emphasis. Did the magistrates really think it necessary to tell the woman this? If so, she should never be given her driving licence back.]

Domestic abuse charity loses £5M in funding because it is not gender-neutral

Our thanks to Andrew for this piece in yesterday’s Sun. It includes some ridiculous commentary on domestic abuse, but this takes the biscuit:

Studies have found 91 per cent of domestic abuse is against women…

Mike Buchanan’s challenge of Kate Grussing, the founder of Sapphire Partners

Kate Grussing is the founder of Sapphire Partners, one of the first search firms to promote diversity in UK plcs. She is an ambassador for the 30 Per Cent Club and Women on Boards. In an article in today’s Sunday Times, she writes this:

Despite enormous evidence that strong representation of women helps businesses to generate better returns, the same people — often white, public-school-educated men — still seem to get the nod for key roles.

Kate Grussing is – does it really need saying yet again? – misrepresenting correlation as causation. During the nine years I’ve run Campaign for Merit in Business I’ve challenged a huge number of people (mainly women with vested interests for advocating for “more women on boards”) to provide evidence of a causal link between appointing more women to boards and “better returns”, and have yet to have any such evidence provided.

The explanation couldn’t be simpler. There was already plenty of evidence before 2012 – from longitudinal studies – of a causal link between appointing more women to boards, and corporate financial DECLINE. So I shall be emailing Kate Grussing today to ask her to email me (mikebuchananuk@gmail.com) with some of the “enormous evidence” she claims exists that shows “strong representation of women helps businesses to generate better returns”. Don’t hold your breath, because the evidence doesn’t exist.

Not Enough Women: Feminists Rail Again Plan to Honour VC War Heroes with Statues

A tip of the hat to Jack Montgomery for his Breitbart article, published yesterday. An extract:

The feminist was clear that even if given her way it would not be enough, of course, [J4MB emphasis] “Even if every one of them had a statue, we would still not have come close to gender equality in who we look up to on civic plinths, but at least it would be a step in the right direction.”

The malign influence of Carrie Symonds, “Princess Nut Nut”, on the prime minister

We’ve had two female prime ministers, Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May, and in neither case – by all accounts – did their husbands interfere in their work. In stark contrast Carrie Symonds – the feminist fiancée of Boris Johnson, a practising Cathlic, and father to their son Wilfred (what century are we in?) – has long exercised a malign influence over BoJo, and it’s getting worse, predictably. What feminist in a position to wield power or manipulate people in positions of power ever turned down the opportunity? A piece in the Mail.

Shannah Cave, 27, avoids jail after dangerous driving rampage

Another obscene example of judicial leniency towards a female criminal who should be in prison. Our thanks to Steve for this. The full article:

A Southampton woman ploughed her car into her mother’s garden during a dangerous driving “rampage”.

Shannah Cave reversed straight through her mother’s garden fence “using her vehicle as a wrecking ball”.

Just moments before, the 27-year-old had repeatedly kicked the front door of the property in Primrose Road, Southampton causing £400 in damage, a court heard.

She had turned up both drunk and argumentative, according to prosecution barrister, Sam Barker.

Members of the public eventually called the police and Cave of Tatwin Crescent drove off in her white Vauxhall Corsa.

Police officers who were nearby at the time positioned their car in Honeysuckle Road to stop her with one of them getting out on foot to “block the gap”.

However, she drove on leaving forcing him to step out of the way and leaving him shaking.

Mr Barker described it as a close shave with the PC reporting that Cave’s car had missed him by a foot.

A witness who spotted her, later on, described her revving her engine and driving at such speed that smoke was coming from the car.

Officers finally tracked her to Arnold Road in Eastleigh where she was sat in the driver’s seat following the incident on February 29 last year.

She was “verbally abusive” during arrest and “stupidly” kicked out at an officer when being led to a police van. [J4MB: The “stupidity” defence is only available to female criminals.]

Once inside, she screamed, shouted and violently kicked out.

Appearing before Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday she was charged with criminal damage, dangerous driving, assaulting an emergency worker and assaulting an emergency worker with intent to resist arrest.

She pleaded guilty on the basis she had not been trying to hit the police officer with her car and had been panicked at the time. [J4MB: The “panic” defence is only available to female criminals.]

A charge of not guilty to driving with excess alcohol was recorded on her file. [J4MB: Why was she not prosecuted for drunken driving? The article refers to her being “drunk and argumentative”.]

No reason was given why she went to her mother’s home originally but “tensions” were mentioned. [J4MB: The “tensions” defence is only available to female criminals.]

Defending, Jamie Gammon said the offences happened within the context of Cave “completely losing it”. J4MB: The “completely losing it” defence is only… you know.]

He cited her struggles with mental health [J4MB: The “mental health” defence – probably unbsubstantiated- is only…] and said she was both deeply ashamed and remorseful of her actions. [J4MB: The shame and remorse defence is only…]

Mr Gammon argued for any sentence to be suspended and that Cave cares for her son. [Women who care for children must never be sent to jail.]

Mr Recorder Mathew Turner said the offences had clearly crossed the custody threshold [J4MB emphasis] and described her behaviour as reckless.

However, he said the offending had been out of character [J4MB: The “out of character” defence is only…] and that the sentence would be different had she not been a person of vagina [J4MB: the sentence actually ends “had the police officer been injured”. Another classic “Get out of jail free” card for women only. Focus on something the woman DIDN’T do, and consider that a mitigating circumstance to avoid handing out appropriate punishment.]

She was jailed for seven months, suspended for 18 months. [J4MB translation into plain English – She was NOT jailed for seven months.]

Cave will have to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and 24 rehabilitation activity days. [J4MB: Rehabilitation for what? She’s a person of flawless character and responsible for nothing, having no moral agency.]

She was given a three year driving ban.
