Tesco trolleys branded ‘sexist’ for safety instructions which show a woman in a dress with children

Tesco has been branded 'sexist' for its imagery on its trolleys

Our thanks to James and others for this. An extract:

Samantha Rennie, executive director at equality group Witless Women Will Never Stop Whining, said last night: “The idea that shopping trolleys should be gendered in any way seems ridiculous.

“It’s a seemingly small factor that plays a role in reinforcing stereotypical ideas of the woman being responsible for the weekly food shop.’

  1. It’s a seemingly small factor, that plays a role in reinforcing the perception that feminists are personality disordered chronic whiners. Please carry on Samantha.

  2. A heinous error compounded by their use of the silhouette of such a slim woman too – surely fat-shaming in its intent as well as demeaning to women in general. At least the silhouette of the chap pushing the heavily-weighted trolley properly has a paunch, saggy knees, limp wrists and werewolf hands…

  3. I noticed the automatic checkout in my local supermarket uses a computer-graphic instructional video to guide me through the cashier-free shopping experience. Imagine how outraged I was when it occured to me that I was being MARGINALISED by the use of a CGI FEMALE shopper in the vid. Not only that, but the voice over was ALSO the voice of a female.
As a non gender person formerly identifying as a man I was so upset I had to sit down for a few moments. Luckily an onsite team of trained gender-neutral healthcare professionals was at hand to reassure me that I was in fact welcome in the store despite the offensive stereotypical video. I will be writing to the management to demand an apology this week.

    • I wonder if the CGI shopper feels guilty about replacing her “brave” live sisters slaving at the tills? I wonder if there are CGI warehouse workers doing some heavy lifting too?

  4. Well I’m please there was some whining. As its just the stuff that gets feminists a bad name. However I note that in the picture it shows women with children and a man with a heavy weight. So it does rather confirm the stereotypical “women care” gynocentrism that finds extreme form in the Family courts’ discrimination against fathers! Just another way to read it. But not one feminists would, despite it being supposedly core to them that men care for children too.

maybe the negative images of the women are based on everyone experiences…( I certainly see them on a regular basis )
