Women are partly to blame for showbiz sex scandal, says Sir Ian McKellen: Some actresses tell directors they will sleep with them to win roles

Our thanks to Mike P for this. The start of the piece:

Stage and screen star Sir Ian McKellen has spoken out about the sex scandal in film and theatre, claiming women are partly responsible because some tell directors they’ll sleep with them to win roles.

‘People must be called out and it’s sometimes very difficult for victims to do that,’ the Lord Of The Rings star said in a talk at the Oxford Union recently.

‘I hope we’re going through a period that will help to eradicate it altogether. But from my own experience, when I was starting acting in the early Sixties, [J4MB emphasis – 50+ years ago] the director of the theatre I was working at showed me some photographs he got from women who were wanting jobs. . . some of them had at the bottom of their photograph ‘DRR’ — directors’ rights respected. In other words, if you give me a job, you can have sex with me. [J4MB emphasis]

  1. Feminism is slowly convincing all men along with the Justice System that men are always guilty and women never. The truth is women are usually complicit in these so called sex assaults by either leading men on through their calculated actions, along with wearing provocative clothes. In case of directors and wealthy men, women often imply willingness to have sex in return for favors or job offers. About time men rose up and rejected all that anti-men propaganda. It takes two to tango and more often than not, women share the blame.

  2. The moral double standard is paticularly obvious in these cases.

A director who requests or even just accepts sexual favours to influence casting is immoral but a woman who has sex to get a role is a victim deserving of sympathy instead of someone who uses bribery to gain an unfair advantage.

  3. There has been a furores over men with power over resource, position or opportunity, taking advantage of women in order to have sex.

What we have not heard much of, and are unlikely to, are the women with sexual power who take advantage of men’s desire for sex in order to gain resource, position or fame.

Both are immoral of course, and both cause or are likely to cause disadvantage to others who won’t partake in such transactions.

I wonder how many men or women have not been given a rise, promotion, role or whatever because some woman has been happy to use her sexuality and sexual power over men in order to gain advantage?

  4. Liberalism has utterly failed men is my takeaway from this whole MeToo mess; where once it promised everyone a certain set of civil rights and an equality crack at life’s opportunities, it has now devolved into a series of special interest lobbies united only in their hatred of straight white guys; never give up your power, it will be used against you by the first group to pick it up.
