“The distressing thing is that the truth about PV and DVPPs is well known in academic circles, and in many therapeutic circles, but the present unhelpful practices are kept in place by entrenched centres of influence and a political environment which is in thrall to identity political prejudice.”
Mr Collins puts so eloquently the sentiments of my many ramblings. The point is that whatever the claims the Domestic Abuse issue is political not about a response to reality. It remains as it is because men will not challenge anything that is presented as protecting women and children. In complete contradiction to the very idea of an oppressive patriarchy. It is probably the most successful feminist political vehicle, even more so than “rape culture”, because in broadening the idea of Abuse it encompasses so much more. Rape being itself actually a rare crime.
I fully accept that many men reading this would baulk at anything that appears to get men “off” if they’ve been “wife beaters”. Do look and do look at the evidence.
Its not that there aren’t bad things happening its that these are being perpetuated and made worse by a political ideology that prevents real resolutions.
Peoples lives are daily damaged by Politics sweeping aside evidence.

And just to illustrate the politics.
“The three most common forms of sexual harassment students recorded were: ‘inappropriate staring or leering that made you feel intimidated’ (32 per cent); ‘sexually suggestive comments or jokes that made you feel offended’ (19 per cent); and ‘intrusive questions about your private life or physical appearance that made you feel offended’ (14 per cent).
No sensible person would classify staring, making jokes or asking rude questions as sexual harassment”
From an article in “Spiked” illustrating the problems when a survey on Harassment (in Australian Universities this time) becomes a political tool.
