Melanie Phillips (2013): ‘A startling 60% of female doctors leave the profession altogether’

Following Kathy Gyngell’s outstanding article published by the Telegraph yesterday, we thought it timely to provide a link to an article written by Melanie Phillips for The Daily Mail in 2013.

Our spineless political classes are no further forward than in 2013 in admitting the direct cause of the various crises engulfing the NHS – the relentless feminization of the service. Dr Vernon Coleman was writing about the risk of such crises in the 1970s, when the feminization apparently started, attributing them to female doctors in general not having the same dedication to their work that male doctors traditionally had. Female doctors are more likely than male doctors to:

  • quit the profession altogether
  • work part-time, whether or not they have children
  • refuse to work unsocial hours, or carry out home visits, especially at night
  • refuse to work in the more stressful and demanding environments e.g. A&E
  • retire early

As Melanie Phillips points out, it is necessary to train two female doctors (£500,000) to deliver the same career output as from one male doctor (£250,000). The rational response would be to require all doctors to reimburse the state the cost of their training. Doctors’ remuneration is already wildly excessive, leading too many young people to seek a career in medicine for the income rather than for a vocation. The average GP earns well over £110,000 p.a.

Before long, the only people using GP services regularly will be those who cannot afford alternative options, such as Babylon Health (£4.99 pcm). I’m about to subscribe to the service myself. My (male) GP is outstanding, but the last time I wanted to make an appointment to see him, the earliest available appointment was two weeks away.

Women in Astronomy – Fiamengo File, Episode #30

An excellent critique of the ‘need’ for more women in the sciences. There’s no more a ‘need’ for more women to study and work in the sciences, than there’s a ‘need’ for more white sprinters in the Olympic men’s 100 metres sprint final. Good to see Janice draw on material produced by William Collins, a British physicist – from 3:36.

Janice will be speaking at the London conference on the subject, ‘How Feminism is Destroying Higher Education’. The full list of 22 speakers is here, and if you haven’t already ordered your ticket(s) – the deadline to do so is 12:00 GMT, June 5 – you can do so here. Come and join us at what will surely be a remarkable event.

Peter Lloyd: The ‘agony’ of being a 50/50 mother? Oh please. It’s called equality – and fathers deserve their share just as much as women

An interesting piece by Peter Lloyd for The Daily Mail. It’s good to see male journalists becoming more critical of feminism in the mainstream media. That said, because (on average) fathers spend more time at work than mothers, shared parenting will be a distant dream for most fathers (and children).

Belinda Brown: Feminism can only flourish under the protection of real men

We’re not keen on the title of Belinda Brown’s piece, because feminism flourishes under the protection of men such as David Cameron, who won our ‘Toady of the Year’ awards in 2012/3/4/5 – here. That apart, another insightful piece by her for The Conservative Woman. An extract:

Listen up, you evil harridans. There is nothing toxic about masculinity. It is masculinity that protected women and their children from birth through to old age.

To this day, it is women who have the benefit of a husband who are much more likely not only to have the financial support that comes from having a provider, but more likely to have better paid work and children very much more likely to thrive.

All this comes from men feeling responsible for their women and children. This is the bread and butter of masculinity. And the utterly hidden part of the equation is the way in which feminists benefit from men.

This gets to the heart of why men suffer. They protect us, provide for us. Chameleon-like they adapt themselves and their way of life to fit in with prevalent feminist desires and whims. Yet there is no acknowledgement, let alone recognition, value or worth attached to what they do.

It is not masculinity that is toxic. Feminists are the parasites, getting fat on the goodwill, tolerance and indeed chivalry of men and then denying them, thus suffocating the source of their food.

Wendy Willson, 62, jailed for six months for her false rape allegation

Our thanks to B for this. At last, a custodial sentence, even if it’s too light. Most women who ruin men’s lives with false rape allegations aren’t prosecuted. From the article:

In total, 76 officers worked on the enquiry between December 2013 and May 2014 at an approximate cost of £70,000. Despite later pleading guilty to the offences, Willson never offered an explanation in police interview for making the false allegations.

She should also have been fined the cost of the police enquiry.
