Our thanks for Ken for this. He writes:

“When will we start to see equivalent prosecutions of the many women who’ve denied their former partners access to their children after family breakdowns, leading those men to commit suicide?”

    • 63% of male respondents say the police did not help them
    • 64% say the police made things more difficult
    • 72% say their perpetrator faced no accountability at all
    • 81% say a service made them feel less safe or caused further trauma
    • Only 3% felt professionals understood the full picture of risk they faced

From an interim report from the ‘Our Own Words 2026: Adult Survivor Survey’. One male commented “Abuse is real for us men. It nearly drives me to ending my life. Police and courts need training in male victim abuse and they need to fund specialist charities like the little one I thankfully found that saved my life.”

  1. 58% of deaths relating to Domestic abuse in Northern ireland are men (and other realities) As far as I know this, just out, is the only research that looks at the impact of the Domestic abuse of men in a holistic way. Linking the high male suicide rate with the various ways in which abusive partners, official bodies, courts and Police end up creating a web that ensnares men in a Kafkaesque web. Well worth reading for anyone concerned about abuse of men.
