Kate Smurthwaite, feminist ‘comedienne’, the Trades Description Act, a misleading poster in a JD Wetherspoon pub

Our thanks to Samantha for emailing us this earlier today:

Kate Smurthwaite describes herself as a ‘comedienne’. Given that even I think she’s less funny than a broken leg, could she be charged under the Trades Description Act?

It’s an intriguing question, and we’ll have one of our team of City lawyers look into the matter. The question has prompted me to publish this blog piece.

Today we were dropping off leaflets and engaging with people in Sutton in Ashfield, and yesterday we were in Kirkby in Ashfield. We’re big fans of JD Wetherspoon pubs at J4MB – it’s good to pay for a meal and good pint of real ale what we were in the 1990s – and both towns have excellent JDW pubs. Kirkby (as locals call it, and pronounced ‘Kirby’) has The Regent, while Sutton (pronounced ‘Sutton’) has The Picture House.

Thinking about the Trades Description Act put me in mind of misleading advertising, and specifically a large advertisement I photographed yesterday in The Regenthere. It led to some disappointment, I can tell you…

Ex-wife of hippy turned wind farm tycoon who became a millionaire AFTER they split wins right to fight for £2million divorce payout… 22 years after their divorce

Our thanks to J for this. OUTRAGEOUS. I could spend an hour commenting on this story, but don’t have time. I note, however, that one of the Supreme Court judges behind this egregious decision is Lady Hale, the only female Supreme Court judge, who’s always wittering on about the ‘need’ for more female judges. Also that the man has already paid £200,000 of his ex-wife’s legal costs, and will have to pay a lot more.

We hope some right-minded female commentators will write about this story.

Women need to start calling out women’s utter shamelessness.

Given how toxic marriage has been for men for 30+ years, our advice remains unchanged, as per one of our websites, Men shouldn’t marry. Any man foolish enough to be contemplating marriage should put up a couple of images – here and here – where he lives and works. We feel sure the potential future wife wouldn’t object.

Laura Bates speaking at a ‘Guardian’ sponsored event – London, evening of Wednesday, March 18

Next week Special Snowflake – winner of two ‘Lying Feminist of the Month’ awards, she’s yet to catch up with Caroline Criado Perez’s three awards – will be speaking at an event at the Conway Hall in London, sponsored by the Guardian. The event is titled, What’s all the fuss about feminism? and the details are here. Amazingly, the event has sold out, despite tickets selling for £15.00, but you might like to put yourself on the waiting list – it only takes moments. Assuming a Q&A session follows the talks, it would be good to have Laura Bates publicly challenged to retract the lies that led to her two ‘Lying Feminist of the Month’ awards.

The talk is in the paper’s ‘Behind the Headlines’ series, in which the paper claims to bring together a range of voices. In typical Guardian fashion, the ‘range’ in this case includes Marxist radical feminist Beatrix Campbell. It promises to be a fun evening…

While I’d like to attend the event and hand out materials to those entering Conway Hall, I have a prior engagement that means I can’t. But maybe you could be outside the venue, handing out materials? Obvious ones would include:

– the flyer I handed out to audience members before a talk Special Snowflake gave in the Hampstead branch of Waterstone’s last October. It’s here and the story of the evening is here.

– her first ‘Lying Feminist of the Month’ award.

– her second award.

Please email me mike@j4mb.org.uk to let me know if you’ll be able to go along and hand out materials. Be sure to have a video recording capability if you can. If it’s interesting enough, we’ll post a link to it here.

Bobby Smith, we salute you

I’ve just had an email from Ray Barry (leader, Real Fathers for Justice) with the words in the subject line, ‘Harriet’s pink chariot’. Fearing the term might be a euphemism for… well, you know… I nervously read on.

The link Ray sent was this. It’s a Facebook page of Bobby Smith, a fathers’ rights campaigner associated with New Fathers for Justice. He’s doing magnificent work harassing Harriet Harman and other feminist harridans touring the country in the Labour party’s pink battle bus. Someone has already commented that this feminist-driven party, which doesn’t even pretend to care about men’s and boys’ issues, should replace ‘Vote Labour’ with ‘Vote [word redacted]’.

Bobby Smith, we salute you.

You want to steal money from your employer? Go ahead. You’ll face little or no punishment… if you’re a woman.

A year or so ago we published a story of a 20-something barmaid who stole about £3,000 from her employer. Her ‘punishment’ was to repay just £500 to her former employer, at the rate of £5pw for 100 weeks.

I can’t recall if there were mitigating circumstances in that case, but two pieces in the latest Hucknall Despatch – Ian Young lives in Hucknall – reminded me of the story. Time after time, female criminals aren’t punished appropriately because of claims of stress, depression, or alcohol problems. Male criminals wouldn’t be shown the same shocking leniency, whatever the truth about their problems.

The first story – stress, depression, alcohol – concerns a woman who was ‘punished’ for stealing £3,641.60 from her employer, by having to pay him back… er… £3,641.60.

The second story – stress, depression – concerns a woman who stole £205 from her employer to pay for her dead dog’s cremation. She had four previous convictions for theft dating back to 2008, including stealing from previous employers. Her ‘punishment’ for stealing £205? To pay £240. The final line of the article is a gem:

The Lead Magistrate said the offences were a very serious breach of trust.

Not ‘very serious’ enough to merit an appropriate punishment, clearly. You couldn’t make it up, could you?

Nicky Morgan’s feminist indoctrination of 11-year-olds

Appalling. Feminist indoctrination of 11-year-olds, at the behest of Nicky Morgan, Education Secretary as well as Women and Equalities Minister. I appeal again for someone to challenge her at the general election on behalf of J4MB. Her seat is Loughborough, which is near the three Nottinghamshire seats we’re already contesting, but you don’t have to live in the constituency to stand for election there.

She won the seat with a majority of only 3,744 votes in 2010.

Let’s challenge this damnable woman on May 7.

Mike Buchanan’s first article for ‘International Business Times’: Cameron’s naive crusade for boardroom gender diversity will only hurt Britain

I’ve been commissioned by International Business Times to write a series of fortnightly articles on men’s issues. Given the title of the (online) publication, I thought I might start with a business-related topic, the outrageous government initiative forcing FTSE100 companies to appoint more women to their boards, regardless of the availability of women capable of making strong contributions to such organisations. The article is here.
