Janet Bloomfield: ‘Romola Garai wants lad mags banned. Could that possibly be because she just isn’t hot enough anymore to be IN them, as she was back in her glory days?’

The latest insightful gem from JB:

In case you’re unaware of it, JB’s latest 10 blog pieces are always accessible on the right hand margin of our home page. Or you could just subscribe to her blog, and get new pieces instantly. That would be my advice. If you all did that, then I wouldn’t have to spend time writing pieces directing you to them, and I could then take our grumpy Doberman, Harriet Harman, out for more walks. And Mad Hattie does love her walks, it has to be said. She’s always less grumpy afterwards… still grumpy, just less so.

Petronella would certainly be happy to see me spend more time outside the house. So it would be win-win-win-win if you subscribed to JB’s blog. The following would be happier:

– Harriet Harman

– Petronella

– you

– me

Why a hell of a lot of men will probably vote J4MB or UKIP

I’ve been very pleased at the comments posted in response to the blog piece Ally Fogg posted today:

http://freethoughtblogs.com/hetpat/2013/10/13/the-stupid-the-hypocritical-and-the-downright-evil-a-response-to-justice-4-men-and-boys

I was about to take Harriet Harman, our grumpy Doberman, for her late-night walk when a new comment appeared on Ally’s blog piece. It was so uplifting I couldn’t resist posting it here. It takes up the rest of this post.

in response to hetpatftb:

Earlier this year, Mike Buchanan, a British Men’s Rights Activist, announced the formation of Justice for Men and Boys (and the women who love them) a political party which he hopes to be standing in the 2015 general election. The announcement was enough to generate a small flurry of media reports, including an interview on […]

Ally,

Allow me to tell you something in plain old simple English. I am a man and I am sick of being ignored. I am sick of hearing how bad women have it in this country when in actual fact they have exactly the same opportunities as men and probably live safer lives as a result of being afforded greater protection. The amount of media attention that women get is grossly disproportionate and way out of context. Feminism has completely brain-washed the public (via the media) into believing that only women can have it bad. This trend is relentless in its pursuit to indoctrinate our society with the notion that women’s rights is unparalleled in terms of social importance and now it appears we’re in a rut which is bringing significant harm to men and our young generation of boys.

I’m sick of hearing about women on boards, no, seriously I am, and I can pretty much guarantee that there are millions of men who feel the same. There are far too many do-gooders (usually either feminists, white knights or people just a wee bit dense between the ears) who are too scared to stand up for the principles of merit. I’m sick of hearing about how the government should support getting more women on boards when I don’t hear a single thing about getting more women to do some of the other important jobs, which, incidentally contribute to 98% of workplace deaths! The term ‘cherry-picking’ springs to mind!

I’m fed up of hearing about violence against women when there is FAR more violence against men in today’s World. I’m sick of hearing about female genital mutilation without reference to male genital mutilation. And I’m sick of politicians and their ‘female friendly’ policies, which quite frankly are wearing thin. I’m also sick to death of every other advert demonising men, making them look like idiotic morons or sexually objectifying them in an age which, apparently, sees this as acceptable. I’m sick of reading about how lads’ mags should get banned whilst no one contemplates the damage that wrestling mags may have on young boys and it’s unbelievable how zero reference is made to the plethora of underaged shirtless boys there are in girls magazines who are plainly there for the pleasure of girls. I’m sick of how the news reports disasters as comprising of ‘women and children’ . Can you imagine tomorrow’s headlines as: “Disaster strikes. Over 150 killed including 40 men and children”? I thought not! The list goes on and on…

Actually, I’ve come to realise that indeed the pendulum has swung so far the other way that it’s now stuck in the freaking ceiling, held there by a bunch of hypocritical, selfish, self-centred, bigoted, illogical feminists and white knights who are holding it up by the skin of their teeth. It’s time to let go and set that pendulum ticking again because things have already got way out of hand. I read your first couple of paragraphs and this is what made me put pen to paper:

To be blunt, I was less than impressed by the idea and saw no particular reason to add to whatever publicity was already afloat. If I’m honest, I was kind of hoping that if we all ignored it, it would go away.

Let me enlighten you – it won’t go away. Mike is doing a sterling job and he’s representing millions of men like me who are sick of reading, watching and listening to feministic trash that does more harm to society than good. I am all for equality and equal opportunity, I believe that men and women are of equal importance and should be afforded equal rights and protection. it’s just that enough is enough and the petty little game that most political parties are playing whereby they pander to women in the hope to get their votes has become as transparent as glass and is highly offensive.

And in a nutshell (because I haven’t even scratched the surface) that’s why a hell of a lot of men will probably vote J4MB or UKIP.

Ally Fogg: ‘The stupid, the hypocritical and the downright evil: A response to Justice 4 Men and Boys’

Ally Fogg is well-known as a leading commentator on gender and other issues for the Guardian. For some time I’ve been asking him to provide feedback on our public consultation document, and in the past couple of days I’ve spent quite a lot of time posting comments on his blog Heteronormative Patriarchy for Men (no, I don’t know what the term means either). Anyway, I’m delighted to say he’s just posted feedback on nine of the 20 proposals in our document in a new blog post. Enjoy:

I’ve just left a polite comment in response to the piece, and I warmly invite you to do likewise. I find we get further by remaining calm and not responding to insults. Thank you.

Can you afford to spend £1.00 to help ensure a brighter future for men and boys?

Good afternoon.

J4MB and all it stands for, working for a brighter future for men and boys, cannot succeed without a stream of donations from generous supporters, many of whom have little money to spare. Donations are the lifeblood of the party, and nobody connected with the party earns any income from donations. Indeed most are themselves donors to the party, as I am.

The 30-day campaign to raise £1,000 to fund our fifth candidate in 2015 has started more slowly than previous campaigns, raising £160 in its first 12 days (link below). If we don’t hit the target by 31 October, donations will be returned in full.

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/help-j4mb-raise-gbp-1-000-to-fund-its-fifth-2015-general-election-candidate

It’s important that we maintain momentum and hit the target if we’re going to press on and field 30 candidates at the 2015 general election. If a fraction of the people who visited this site every week donated just £1.00 each, we’d hit the target. I know times are hard for many people, but if you can spare anything, however small, it would be most gratefully received. I’m serious when I say even £1.00 would be welcome. Every little helps.

The general ‘fighting fund’ needs boosting, so I’ve decided to triple my personal donations (from company pensions) from the start of November. Separate from the 2015 candidate fund, it’s the fund which pays for everyday expenses such as travel, stationery etc. If you feel able to donate anything to that fund, the link’s here (just click on the ‘donate’ button):

As always, thank you for your support. Please feel free to contact me by email or phone if you have any queries, or if you’d just like a discussion. It’s always a pleasure to communicate with supporters, and with donors in particular.

Best wishes,

Mike Buchanan

Peter Hitchens: ‘If killing girls isn’t sexism, what is?’

From Peter Hitchens’s column in today’s Mail on Sunday:

It’s now clear. The law  says that if a woman wants to kill her baby because that baby is a girl rather than a boy, that is legal.
Now, I can think of almost nothing more bigoted than killing a baby simply because it is female.

Anyone who genuinely thinks that women are as valuable as men (as I do) must be revolted by such  an action. That’s even if  they think that abortion is fine (as I do not).

From which I conclude, by their weeks of silence on this issue, that the great majority of our feminist sisterhood are lying frauds, motivated not by real feminism but by opportunist, careerist greed.

They will shout for special treatment in employment, education and boardrooms  – but they won’t say a word to save an innocent baby, torn to bits in the womb for being the wrong sex.

We need to ask ourselves why feminists have been silent on this issue. It’s surely because if they campaigned for an end to sex-selective abortion, they’d be admitting what they surely believe – that female foetuses have a higher value than male foetuses. And if foetuses have value, shouldn’t they also enjoy rights? A woman’s right to ‘choose’ to kill her foetus – regardless of the wishes of the father of the foetus – must always trump other considerations.

It’s been argued that 97% of the elective abortions carried out in the UK are illegal, namely those carried out on the grounds of reducing the risk of injury to women’s mental health, because there’s no evidence to show abortion reduces that risk. Indeed, evidence shows it increases the likelihood of injury to both physical and mental health. In the 46 years since the Abortion Act (1967) around 8 MILLION elective abortions have taken place. That’s more than the combined present-day populations of Scotland and Wales, or London.

Our proposal with respect to abortion law reform, along with some background information on the subject, may be found on pages 16, 17 of our public consultation document:

‘Woman’s Hour’ – an excellent discussion on male victims of domestic violence

Yesterday I attended the second National Conference for male victims of domestic violence, hosted by Mankind Initiative http://mankind.org.uk. A most interesting day, and the 120 people who attended now know about J4MB and our interest in this subject.

One of the presentations was a very moving account by a survivor of DV, Ian McNicholl. A most inspiring man, he was left registered disabled after his partner attacked him with a hammer. She received a jail sentence of seven years and was released after just 18 months. Ian was the prime advisor to Coronation Street with respect to the DV suffered by one of the leading characters, Tyrone.

Two of the most interesting presentations were given by the psychologists who’d appeared earlier in the day on Woman’s Hour, and given a very good account of themselves. The audio file has just been loaded onto our YouTube channel:

http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKhX1c3ow6BrzdzP3ydpeZQ/videos

It was a most interesting discussion, even if preceded by a truly nonsensical statement by the presenter about the relative incidence of DV suffered by men and women. The psychologists were Dr Nicola Graham-Bevan (University of Central Lancashire) and Dr Erica Bowen (Coventry University). This is the well-received presentation which Dr Nicola Graham-Kevan gave to the Mankind Initiative conference later in the day:

140514 Mankind Conference Slough 2013, Female Perpetrators of Intimate Partner Violence

It’s only possible to attend such events, make people aware of who we are and what we do, and provide literature, because of donations from supporters. If you’re able to help us meet some of our campaign costs, we should be truly grateful. The link’s here:
