“The book, by J Stone, was published on 30th April 2022. The article by Helen Andrews came out on 16th October 2025. Interestingly, she attributes an accidental discovery of the work of ‘J Stone’ as setting her on this path of discovery.

As for J Stone’s book, the Kindle blurb makes an incorrect claim, that: “this feminization is unprecedented in any large civilization.” The work of J D Unwin ‘Sex and Culture’ from 1934 has this to say, the words particularly resonant, since they are from almost a century ago: “Sometimes, we imagine that we have arrived at a conception of the status of women which is far superior to that of any other age. We feel an inordinate pride, regaling ourselves as the only civilised society which has understood that women must have social, legal and political equality. Nothing could be further from the truth. A female emancipation movement is a cultural phenomenon of unfailing regularity. There is a process by which absolute monogamy is first modified, then abolished, recurring in every society studied. First of all, women are ’emancipated’ from their husbands, and granted co-equal status. Then, marriage is altered from a lifelong union into one made and broken by mutual consent, with no demand for premarital chastity. After three generations, these societies become economically inert, with inexorable decline as women push for further ‘freedoms’. Historically, such societies have often been conquered by their more energetic neighbours.”“
