One has to admire the pragmatism of the CCP. A country with a “demographic time bomb” is busy getting ready to fill the gaps. Not by the importation of people from other cultures but by technology. China hasn’t subscribed to DEI and is busy getting rid of “diversity” in terms of Tibetans and Uighurs. Not being mammalian the robots will of course be “non binary” giving China a big win in the Gender wars. Though of course the CCP doesn’t enact its official feminism when its inconvenient to their plans.
Meanwhile in the west we build on sand. Believing an economy built on shopping is sustainable, despite the massive borrowing needed to fund it. Believing in fanciful metaphysics of being “born in the wrong body”. Believing two contradictory things at the same time. That men and women are the same, yet asserting that without special help or even sex segregation men will always win through in competition with women. Deciding immutable characteristics such as skin colour, sex are better criteria than actual abilities. And that importing people to fill gaps, and allowing them to import their families doesn’t impact on housing and health services nor bringing with them very different cultures, values and world views … will somehow create harmony rather than pressures and division. As the “middle kingdom” continues to reverse the 100 years of shame and assert its hegemony over those that imposed this. We, big players in that century of “oppression” in Chinese text books, continue to navel gaze our feelings and hide from anything real.
I recall the shock when the American Gov. opined that the job of their military was to threaten and be able to apply lethal force. As opposed to being a “service” that celebrated all sorts of “diversity” rather than actually be threatening and able to apply effective force to back up that threat. I expect our response to legions of robots in the command of the CCP will be gender studies papers on whether robots are he, she, zee, it, or another “pronoun”.
