This fundamentally differs from the law that was passed by the German Bundestag with votes from the SPD, the Greens, the CDU/CSU, and the Left Party, and which, contrary to Articles 2 and 3 of the Basic Law, established a protection privilege against violence exclusively for women. Not a single one of the more than 700 members of the German Bundestag voted against the motion at the time, which deliberately and systematically excluded male victims of violence from protective measures.
