Disappointing. An extract:
Chiara De Biase, from Prostate Cancer UK, said she was “deeply disappointed” with the final recommendations.
“We know that a mass screening programme could save thousands of men’s lives, and while we recognise the current evidence does not yet show that screening all men at risk would do more good than harm, today’s decision is a step backwards, narrowing the recommendation to a smaller pool of eligible men.”

So basically men have to “man up” and sort things out themselves. By noticing symptoms early and badgering their GP to do something. Well done to those individuals and Charities that continue to alert men to the risks and symptoms and campaign for better tests and screening. Unsurprisingly given it’s huge public awareness and massive devotion of women’s health Breast cancer is in fact one of the most “over diagnosed” Cancers. I cannot imagine any committee suggesting rolling back the screening and testing to reduce the over diagnosing results of such massive public encouragement. I have two friends who both have had to have surgery because their early self diagnosis was brushed off by GPs when far less drastic treatment could have been effective.
Particularly insulting is the idea that men can’t handle the difference between being told they have an aggressive cancer and one that is unlikely to be a problem.
In truth evidence that there is nothing more “disposable” than older men. And that men are not to expect public services to make much effort on their behalf, because they should just sort themselves out. And pay their NI and Taxes for the more “deserving” members of society.
