Appalling. Of course performing MGM on non-therapeutic grounds is implicitly a criminal offence under OAPA1861 – it’s at least ABH, almost certainly GBH – but the police don’t arrest the criminals. I sought to bring a private prosecution of Balvinder Mehat, a Sikh circumciser in Nottingham, but a judge denied me leave to do so. Our many blog pieces on Mehat here.

  1. “Blackburn, Preston, Bolton, Burnley, Accrington and Nelson” Of course he advertises in these towns in my region. Any visit to any one will instantly illustrate why. And for the same reason the national inquiry into “Grooming Gangs” has died before it started the Labour Party will ensure the CPS does not come up with anything that looks like enforcement. After all the Jewish community is very small and the Islamic community large so both antisemitism and islamophobia will be invoked. So good for the NSS in doggedly pursuing this. Of course the two laws against FGM ride right over “cultural and religious traditions”. One wonders why the very different approach to safeguarding girls …..
