Interesting. Performing MGM is, as we have repeated countless times over the years, implicitly a criminal offence under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, as is FGM. But FGM was made specifically illegal through legislation in the mid 1980s. It is difficult to think of a more scandalous sex-based double standard.

Good for the NSS for pushing this. It is remarkable That this remains in a deliberate “limbo” where action simply isn’t taken. Just as in reality the laws against FGM are very rarely used ,circa 6 times in nearly 30 years. The latter it seems to exist to “virtue signal” rather than actually tackle the perpetrators (mainly women and Muslim). The former to avoid clashes and accusations of anti Semitism and/or Islamophobia.

Thanks Nigel, you raise a good point about the female perpetrators. Virtually all black or Muslim (or both), I believe. I can’t recall so much as one Muslim woman having been prosecuted.
