Interesting. It’s welcome – and surprising, given the deeply feminist leanings of the government – to see that alleged rape cases will still be held before juries. There are already far too many men in prison following dubious convictions with zero substantive evidence submitted that any crime had been committed.

I think we know why they will keep juries for the most serious of cases, rape(SA), murder, manslaughter etc
its not for the reasons you think.
I believe its because some of those accused will be women, and the feminists have decided that women will get a better outcome with a jury rather than a judge.
thereby acknowledging why it would be bad for men also to abolish juries..
some feminists have claimed the abolition is because of the backlog and the time it takes to go to trial etc.
well those are problems for men as well.
so.. rather than deal with why there is a backlog( excessive unlawful arrests, failure to sentence people earlier in their criminal career etc, importing criminals ) feminists would rather use this situation to put their thumb on the scales of justice in their favour…

“Rape” in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (I’m not sure about Scotland) has a very specific meaning in law “penetration by a penis or object” it is just one of a series of Sexual Assaults in the Sexual Offences Act 2003. Frequently in common parlance and the media (and from feminists) these other offences are referred to as “rape” even though strictly speaking what is being referred to is not rape as defined in law. Presuming the Lammy plan is referring to the legal offence then that means the other offences, which do often lead both to prison sentences and of course being placed on a “sexual offender register” for decades after, will now be tried without Juries. In fact trials for rape are rare in the criminal justice system circa 2 to 3 thousand each year (spikes in recent years reflect catching up with “grooming gangs). However there are many more “sexual offences”, including exposure, “groping”, up to non-penetrative sex. That the feminist in particular roll into their counting of “rape”, these will be tried without recourse to Juries.
