Scot Squad and River City actors to star in film to be shot in Glasgow – crowdfunder target passed!!!

Great news. Three weeks ago we posted a blog piece about a film it was hoped to make about Male Domestic Abuse, to be filmed in Scotland – background here. At the time £14,560 had been donated towards the crowdfunder (target – £18,000). We made a donation, as did some supporters, the names of some of whom (and their messages of support) are here. I’m struck by how many donations (including some substantial ones) came from women. The donations recently passed the target, currently £19,040 – here.

Our thanks to everyone who supported the crowdfunder.

  1. I’m so pleased they’re getting on. I’m glad you mentioned the women supporters. Though its some years ago when I was involved with a helpline, then at least half of referrals came from women, parents, siblings , new partners. Part of this seemed to be that women were able to see behaviour as “abuse” because of publicity campaigns directed at women and partly because the male they were worried about wanted to be “private” or felt he could “handle” the situation. Subsequently other larger charities have reported similar patterns. After all the great Erin Pizzey herself has always been clear perpetration and victimisation has never been “gendered”. We should not lose sight of the fact that many women do love the men in their lives. Nor that often they are more likely to seek help. It is feminists that have divided humanity into warring camps, not “women” or indeed “men”. I’m looking forward to the film and hope it will reach out to men and the women who care about them to come forward.
