oh dear. “About five million Ukrainians left the country and are abroad, the minister said, and another million are serving in the armed forces” and as we know those serving in the military are almost exclusively Male and conscripted while the vast majority of the five million who left the country are women. Of course in the two Germanies and the USSR post war had such a shortage of men due to the “meat grinder” eastern front, that in the 50s into the sixties there was indeed a lot of women in such jobs. But as societies grow in affluence the “occupational gender segregation” actually increases as women have the choice and the number of public service and admin jobs increases!
So despite the dreams of feminists to see marching hoards of “Rosie the Riveter” this will not happen. But it is interesting how resistent the Ukrainians have been to “mobilisation” of women in the same way as men. In fact doing the reverse in encouragement to leave. After all we conscripted single women for factories, farms and “war work” in WW2.
