Justice for Men & Boys 
Way back in the 1970s I read the Economist Thomas Sowell’s work. A part of it on the breakdown in formerly tight family and community bonds in the “Black” districts. He quoted a prominent American saying this would be the result of “welfare”, way back at the begining of the 1960s. Neither had a particular focus on “gender” in the modern meaning but observed that a focus on “mothers” would and was creating perverse incentives for illegitimacy and chaotic families. Tragically now the situation is as Baskerville describes. In the UK the Black community is actually still numerically small (unlike the evidence on our screens) and its easy to find the data. The Afro-Caribbean community reflects the situation in the US, with similar consequences. However because, despite what we’re told, the country is “hideously white” the full extent of the disaster, so evident in the US and here in a few “diverse” Boroughs, is sort of hidden by the obsession with “race”. I worked for many years in one of the Cities in Greater Manchester, Salford. It was (and still is) very white. So much so that when the Blair Gov. decided Jews were no longer a vulnerable ethnicity, and therefore the annual grant the City received would end there was a rather “Yes minister” comical hunt for ethnic minorities in the City (the key find was “travellers”). Anyway councils and Gov. collect data on a district basis, in quite remarkable detail, and looking at such data for the “sink” estates the same pattern of family disintegration shows up for “whites”. Precisely the districts most “dependent” on welfare and “interventions” by Gov. (local and national). My point is Baskerville’s that the obsession with Race serves to hide the full extent of the degrading of family and creation of “man deserts” in this country. It is the people most subject to support and interventions by “the state” and its agents that have the most degraded family formation. And of course this should be no surprise as “the state” has largely accepted the Harman definition of family as “a mother and her children”.
As Sowell has subsequently pointed out often the reason for the rapid advance of “Blacks” in the post WW2 years was the strong family values (that he benefitted from) and the stalling and collapse of those gains reflects the disintegration of the stable family and community. It should be a warning to us all of a future for everyone.
