This is going to be a blog post with a diifference. In 1971, as a 14-year-old, my father took me to Hatchards, a London bookseller, where Twiggy was signing copies of her (ghost-written) autobiography, which remains a treasured possession to this day. Her manager Justin de Villeneuve was a brooding presence nearby. A few years later she started a career as a singer, and I much enjoyed her concert at the Royal Festival Hall.
A few years after that, I totally fell in love with the German model / actress / songwriter Nico. I think I was 18 when I first saw her on The Old Grey Whistle Test (1975?). Sadly she died, aged 50, in 1988, after a cycling accident in Ibiza. She sings a couple of her songs here (video, 8:22). One of my most treasured CDs is her The End.
