Britain’s oldest fly-fishing club which counts King Charles as a patron is facing calls to admit women for the first time ever following The Garrick Club’s decision to change its men only policy

Give me strength (Mail, £). The Flyfishers’ Club will probably surrender to the miserable passive-aggressive harpies – parasites, one and all – as the Garrick Club did recently.

I was an angler for 30+ years, for many of those years a fly fisherman, and I never once encountered a female angler. Fishing is for men who need to get away from their wives and kids for a time. Why can’t the tiny number of female anglers form their own miserable club? The Female Flyfishers’ Club, maybe?

  1. If the Fly Fishing Club had any sense, they would endure the online abuse for a few days and demand the Women’s Institute allow men to join first. The first line in the WI’s Wikipedia page “The Women’s Institute (WI) is a community-based organization for women in the United Kingdom.” This double standard must stop.

    • Indeed, but it will never stop because spineless men will always surrender to women, one of countless manifestations of gynocentrism. An indicator of a man’s mental health and character is his ability and readiness to say “No” to women.

  2. I’m sure you are right. And then after a while, when only a handful of women join, the tiny number will be blamed on the sexism/misogyny of the male members……… not the fact that few women actually want to fish. If they had sense they’d simply ignore the hoo ha as there really isn’t any way of winning. A largely solitary sport, requiring long periods of quiet and wearing unflattering attire deliberately designed to be unnoticed with cold wet and discomfort thrown in. The reality is there is no way short of armed force the’ll get women in any numbers to join up.
