Our thanks to Jeff for this piece in the Telegraph. Amanda Blanc, CEO of Aviva, was given a damehood in the honours list “for services to business, gender equality and net zero”. Bottom line? This government endorses discrimination against men in general, and white men in particular, as have many governments before it, most shamefully the Conservatives.

So my mother informs me the Germans have been skeptical of UK capacity in NATO. In Sweden the government has stood its ground following the defense minister laying it on the line that they have to be realistic about defense and this means everyone. While here Grant Shapps thinks the recruitment crisis into our small and “under manned” forces will be solved by “diversity”. Now lets remember what that meant for the RAF. Well first of discriminating against white men. But also deliberately not recruiting cohorts where there were almost all white men. Because if your targets are for specific percentages of a diversity group, and that group only produces a few recruits, then to reach the % target you simply don’t recruit the out group. Result lots of potential recruits lost as you have to reduce the overall number of recruits. This was exactly what the RAF was doing. It would seem the same may also be true of the Navy and Army. The very existence of the targets actually gives an incentive to recruit less people in jobs that are never likely to attract many specific groups. For instance women and dirty, dangerous, jobs, often at great distance from home and with decidedly unsocial hours.
It may not be the only issue in recruitment, but as we know from the RAF it most definitely is one.
