It is interesting in some of the media reporting and debates even those opposed accepted that there is evidence of male disadvantage and “sex specific ” needs. Opposition to the idea seemed to be one of: Yes but men are still “in charge” so they should do something. Yes. but more gender equality will address these things. Or yes but it may distract from women’s problems which are more important/pressing. I could be being over optimistic but this seems a huge advance from the previous assertion that all males are totally safe, privileged and in no need of attention. I can’t help but think this is due to the constant work done by J4M&B and others in getting key facts, that chime with people’s experience, about men into public discourse. Given the rich vein of cultural gynocentrism that runs through our society, like the Blackpool in Blackpool rock, this is a great step forward.
