  1. A reminder of the “gender divide” that occurs when crises hit. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-66496402 “Under war-time government rules, no man aged between 18 and 60 can leave Ukraine without special permission from the authorities.
That means male students who decide to study in Ukraine cannot travel abroad until the war is over. And while currently students are exempt from being drafted into the army, those rules could change if Ukraine suddenly needs more men.
It also means male students thinking of studying abroad have to leave before they turn 18: crucially, they are unable to return home to visit without then risking getting stuck inside their own borders”
Typically of the BBC the main focus is on the girls whose opinion “It’s not even discussed. Boys don’t blame anyone, they understand it’s the rules and they should be obeyed,” as they plan their shopping for living abroad seems rather entitled. A really stark reminder of which sex really bears the consequences of conflict, not only death or maiming and real PTSD but a whole lot of restrictions not applied to their female contemporaries. Its perhaps not coincidental that its the boys whose views include rebuilding their country, helping their family ot planning to thank allies.
