Thanks Nigel, good points – although women aren’t a minority, for a variety of reasons (some relating to poor healthcare provision for men).
Thank you for this. It’s heartening to see the DM taking this up. And putting the onus on health services to do more to diagnose. In fact ln this survey and other research much the same pattern is shown in almost all cancers, with late diagnosis and slow response contributing to the much higher mortality rates for males. However often, just as in mental health, the onus is usually placed on the men to be better, rather than services to focus campaigns and publicity. This contrasts markedly with how “women’s health” is seen or indeed other minority groups. Where any suggestion they shouldn’t get targeted help would be heresey. However the reality is men can only benefit from good advice spread by any and all concerned with their welfare because for now they are on their own and have to fight to get taken seriously.
