Julian Knight: Met Police drop sexual assault investigation into Tory MP

Our thanks to Alan for this.

The continued naming of men before they’re tried and convicted – often, as here, before they’ve even been charged – is a scandal. We cover it on pp. 71,72 of our election manifesto:

  1. The real culprits appear to be the “whips” who seem to have acted to name him, and continue to imply some sort of blame. I wish him well in his fight to get justice from his own political party. Although the police were dilatory in concluding their investigation it is the Tory party “machine” that seems to have, and continues, to besmirch his reputation by facilitating accusers. All round it will clearly be better that names are not released at least until formal charge.
