Conservative party conference – banner and leaflet designs

We’re looking forward to campaigning outside the Conservative party conference next Sunday and Monday (3,4 October), alongside some good people from Gender Parity UK. The design of one of our new 8′ x 3′ banners is here, the two sides of one of our new leaflets here and here. We hope you’ll come along and support us.

Rachel (Canadian feminist), Brigitte (French non-feminist) and Janet (English anti-feminist)

Even full-time MRAs need to relax sometimes. I’m starting to experiment with creating videos using stock video footage and text-to-speech software. This (0:56) is my first creation, let me know what you think. I’ll post it on the Comedy Channels here and at my site Laughing at Feminists.

‘Older actresses are too vain’: Dame Eileen Atkins, 87, insists there are still plenty of roles for senior females… if they are willing to look ‘lousy’

Our thanks to Nigel for this. He writes:

It is a matter of constant amazement to me that while all around us on every possible media there is a constant presence of the many and huge industries devoted to feeding female vanity, somehow all manner of “problems” are discussed as if there is some mystery about them. Two centuries ago Mary Wollstonecraft observed that the amount of time taken by her contemporaries fussing about their appearance was itself a problem let alone the fact that such concentration on the superficial and ephemeral got in the way of education and “building character”. It would seem inevitable that living in a belief that it is possible to be forever young and “gorgeous” will generate a shedload of disappointment and resentments.

Now way back in the 70s there were feminists still taking pops at the beauty and fashion industries. However these days they are more likely to demand the “right” to have painted nails and this season’s “must haves”. In the flurry of articles about the evils of the Taliban the BBC had one on the terrible effect on fashion and beauty industries in Kabul. Closing nail bars and cosmetic surgeries it seems being a sign of barbarism. It seemed to the writer that all the panoply of fashion and beauty was a measure of “human rights”.

There was no hint of the irony that this was describing part of the lifestyle of a tiny wealthy elite in a country “one of the poorest in the world” almost exclusively of subsistence farmers who must look at such things as we do the excesses of Arab princes and Russian plutocrats in London! Quite without the religious puritanism of the Taliban one could well see how the “government troops”, drawn from the same dirt poor villages, would be less than enthusiastic in fighting for such Marie Antoinettes.

When Mary Wollstonecraft was writing her audience was the comparatively small proportion of the population who had the time and money (and literacy) to understand her. Today the advances in the “west” are such that almost every woman can indulge herself in the ways Mary railed against. And there are multi-billion £ industries to prove they do. To the extent that fashion and beauty has become a human right.

Covid sparked biggest fall in life expectancy since World War II with men in England and Wales losing more than a year, report finds

Our thanks to Nigel for this. He writes:

Well at least the Daily Mail managed to mention men in the headline. A reminder that whatever the total numbers Covid 19 kills more males. Of course one of the reasons is becoming clearer as we struggle to find HGV drivers. Simply that from taxis to trains, tankers to post, security to police, bin men to power generation and distribution, it is men who made up the majority of those who had to carry on working in the real world rather than hide in a virtual world.

Paul Howell MP (C, Sedgefield) asked a question about criminal justice system leniency towards women, got a barefaced lie in response

Our thanks to the indefatigable Douglas for this story. He wrote this to his MP:

Dear <name redacted>,

Last week, on the 22nd September, Paul Howell MP, raised a question in the House. I am concerned that he did not receive a truthful answer and that the House was given an incorrect picture of the state of British justice. Paul asked:

“Last week, I had the privilege of meeting my constituents Thomas Gill and his parents, who suffered major injuries as a result of a car being driven by a female driver who was under the influence of drink and drugs. Thomas raised his concern because the sentencing was so low and young women were getting more lenient treatment than young men. Could the Minister assure him that we are equal under the law?”

Guy Opperman (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Work and Pensions) answered. I find it hard to think that Mr Opperman would be willing to openly lie to the House but I also find it hard to believe that any minister—particularly one supposedly competent to respond on a question of law—can be unaware of the systemic disadvantages that have existed in the British legal system for over a hundred years, and are being perpetuated today at an increasing rate. He said (emphasis mine):

“I was very sorry to learn of the injuries sustained by Thomas, and it is right that this matter is raised by my hon. Friend. I can assure him and the House that equality applies to all aspects of justice – it always has and it always will.” [J4MB: Douglas’s emphasis]

Would you please find out if Mr Opperman is unaware of the MoJ’s own reports that clearly show anti-male/pro-female discrimination, as well as being aware of justice campaigners and those campaigning for equal rights for men over the past decades, as they try to get what he has told the House already exists, and always will? Could we see a retraction in the House, please, and a correct statement made that shows the government is at least aware that it treats males far more harshly under the law, even as many in Parliament seek to close all women’s prisons.

Yours sincerely,

<name redacted>

Mike Buchanan’s new talk title for ICMI21

I’ve just changed my talk title to the following:

Feminists win their battles only because men in positions of power deliver their demands, as active collaborators or cowards. A case study.

I’ll be drawing on material from another of my websites, Campaign for Merit in Business.

Labour’s support for single-sex places is too little, too late

Our thanks to Nigel for this. He writes:

I know Labour is generally not in the sights of J4MB, partially no doubt because they’re not in power. However I am enjoying the spectacle of “feminists” dealing with the the results of their own ideology. Yet another entertaining description of how equality was never on the agenda really as Labour “wimmin” wail about “sex based rights”. First of all labour men don’t wail about this because men don’t have any “sex based rights” (in fact men in general probably realise this too). Secondly isn’t the whole point of feminist theory is that all “gender roles” were made up by some small group conspiracy at an unspecified time in the past? Up till now they’ve been encouraging of men dressing in frocks and being “gender benders” so they’ll step aside to let women be CEOs, and women “performing” male gender roles. But as it so often the case not liking it if men really do get into “women’s” spaces like childcare, homemaking, netball, changing rooms  and so on.

It seems all along it wasn’t about “equality” nor about “deconstructing gender” or “queer theory” or “intersectionality” but about posh women having lots of privileges and legal rights because they really are special, fragile, entitled creatures. Certainly this seems to be this woman’s view. Top civil servant says she only wants her staff to go into the office two days a week | Daily Mail Online Apparently working from home is great because women otherwise wouldn’t be confident. Which begs the the question, why are we employing senior managers who can’t be relied on to speak up, let alone paying such people to have time on their exercise bike and playing with children?

Perhaps eventually all this will bring out more and more the “sex based rights, entitlements and privileges” enjoyed by women, which they seem so threatened by men who have decided to perform the “female gender role”. You’d think having men wanting to be “women” would be ideal for feminists, fewer and fewer of those toxic masculine types that the Gillette ad so clearly said were a blight on civilisation.
