Our thanks to Nigel for this. He writes:
In an ideal world we wouldn’t have to pay attention to banter at work. However, now feminists in particular have “weaponised” the most casual comment by men in the workplace through the idea of the “micro aggression”, almost anything is admissible as harassment if she says it is. In this case a man has won such a case and given the rarity of this sort of thing being reported it’s important men have a read and realise that they are also “protected” but they are not told this by the industry created to encourage only women to take advantage of the law.
The second point of note is of course the “homophobic” aspect, as speakers at the ICMIs have noted women do often use homophobic insults to keep men “in line”, it’s part of their battery of ways of shaming men into the behaviours that women want to see. Want to “go Dutch”, spend “too much” time getting ready, not find a woman attractive? You must be gay.
To be frank I think if many more men made use of this legislation to win cases the enthusiasm for the whole edifice would wither as – let’s be honest – it’s intended to benefit only women.
