‘He lost the strength to fight smears’: Leon Brittan’s widow reveals how fake rape claims haunted his dying days

Our thanks to Mike P for this. An extract:

But Jane, who turned out later to be a mentally ill Labour activist with a history of delusional behaviour and who had previously made false allegations against others including relatives, secured the influential help of Mr Watson, [J4MB: Tom Watson MP] who viewed her as a credible witness.

The only solution to this cruelty is for those suspected of sexual allegations to remain anonymous until and unless convicted.

Chiefs vs. Buccaneers | Super Bowl LV Game Highlights

Enjoy (video, 12:10). American football – so much more exciting than soccer, and plenty of cheerleaders over 6′ tall. What’s not to like?

(Woman agrees with women that women are disadvantaged, pt.2) British Chambers of Commerce Co-Executive Director Claire Walker responds to report from Women and Equalities Committee

British Chambers of Commerce Co-Executive Director (two women sharing a job one man used to do) Claire Walker agrees with some utter BS from the Women &Equalities Committee. Quelle surprise.

The start of the woeful piece:

Employers value the skills women bring to the workplace and the evidence shows that businesses with a diverse and inclusive workforce perform better. [J4MB: No, it doesn’t.]

(Woman agrees with women that women are disadvantaged, pt.1) EHRC chair responds to report from Women and Equalities Committee

Baroness Kishwer Falkner, the female chair of the EHRC agrees with some utter BS from the Women & Equalities Committee. Quelle surprise.

The start of the woeful piece:

Significant progress has been made on women’s equality at work and this cannot be put at risk. The pandemic has caused economic hardship for many businesses and the people that work for them, particularly in industries where women make up a large percentage of the workforce such as hospitality [J4MB: Why “particularly”, other than “because vagina”?]

We also know that women are over-represented in low-paid and insecure employment [J4MB: Because those lines of employment are attractive to women] and still take on the majority of caring responsibilities [J4MB: Because men – whether as willing partners or unwilling taxpayers – enable this infinitely more agreeable alternative to paid employment.]

Covid: Support ‘repeatedly skewed towards men’, say MPs

Our thanks to Nigel for this. He writes:

I saw this headline and must have been sleepy because I foolishly thought it was about more advice or help from health services  based on the much higher risks and death rate for men. But no, it’s just more of the same demand for privileges.

No mention that men are 60% of the deaths. Nor that “male dominated” industries are the ones most at risk of contracting the disease as they carry on working (public transport, taxis, drivers). Certainly not that it is the female dominated industries like care and health that get the vaccine first (I benefitted from this myself).

Of course no thought given to the fact that if it is sectors that have mainly women on furlough than the tax payer is paying them to be at home.

I can see that there may well be difficulties in the future with “flexible” working simply because in the recession employers will be looking to up productivity not reduce it, and it’s hardly the time to introduce more paid time off for women making the costs of employment even higher.

As usual in the case presented the husband is referred to as working full-time as if that’s some delightful privilege in a pandemic.

As always the basic premises seem to be jobs are some sort of gift by a welfare body that just appear and can be altered to suit at will. And that women should have much less obligation to actually turn up and work, yet be paid as if they work full-time.

And look at the case presented. Sharon has a small clothing sales “business” and runs a small charity. The latter presumably not paid before Covid anyway and the former probably a small scale concern, selling to friends. So the full-time working husband has been subsidising these already and continues to do so.

Given that every recession since the 1970s has hit male employment much harder than female employment it seems most likely this will be the same. But of course there will be no “gendered” analysis of that.

Meanwhile Sharon’s husband will pay Sharon twice, once as breadwinner and again as taxpayer. But he won’t be getting a thank you.

BBC failures: Half of Britons no longer want to pay licence fee for ‘bias’ reporting

A piece in yesterday’s Express. An extract:

Shipley Conservative MP Philip Davies said there was a strong feeling the broadcaster had failed to provide impartial coverage of Brexit.

He said: “This poll shows that the days of the licence fee are numbered, and the sooner the BBC accepts that and embraces that the better for everyone. The BBC have ruined their reputation for impartiality, and are completely out of step and out of touch with huge swathes of the country.

“They have retreated into a metropolitan, London-centric, left wing, politically correct, virtue signalling, woke bubble and the public have clearly had enough.”
