John Otway is a musical genius who I had the pleasure of catching many times on folk nights in The Black Horse pub in Leighton Buzzard in the early 1970s, during my sixth form years. He had a manic persona and would at times writhe about on the floor performing his music. It drove the (heavily perspiring) old folkies in their Arran jumpers nuts.

Over 10 years ago I saw him perform at the Cambridge Corn Exchange with the legendary Wilko Johnson, the former lead guitarist of Dr Feelgood. I had a few drinks and ill-fated wife #2 drove us home afterwards, as I may possibly have exceeded government guidelines relating to alcohol.
