Labour leadership hopeful Jess Phillips reveals she dreamed of being the ‘Queen of the World’ when she was a teenager

Our thanks to Mike P for this. The story is consistent with something I’ve believed since first becoming aware of Jess Phillips, and reading her early interviews, that she has a number of mental health issues. Firstly, Narcissistic Personality Disorder – what else could explain the bid of such a vacuous, hate-driven and inexperienced person to lead a major political party? – and an anxiety disorder.

I’m on record as hoping she’ll be elected Labour party leader, because then the party will be out of power for at least a decade. But it seems far more likely that Sir Keir Starmer, a particularly anti-male Director of Public Prosecutions, followed by an even more anti-male one, Alison Saunders (she was recently made a Dame).

Sir Roger Scruton RIP

Our thanks to Jacob for this.

Elizabeth and I had long been admirers of the conservative philosopher, and last May we enjoyed a Spectator event in which he was in discussion with Douglas Murray. Our blog piece is here, and it contains a link to an audio file (1:25:15) of the discussion.

The impact of sexuality on the likelihood of being a victim of domestic abuse

Our thanks to Jim Johnson for sending a FOI request to the Home Office concerning the relationship between sexuality and the likelihood of being a victim of domestic abuse, and asking why official data on domestic abuse victims hadn’t been broken down by sexuality since 2011. The Home Office reply is here and indicates that data broken down by sexuality were re-introduced in 2018.

The Home Office letter links to reports covering the years to March 2018 and March 2019. For ease of use, I’ve highlighted the key data in yellow, for people aged 16-59, in spreadhsheets for the years to the end of March 2018 and March 2019. A key finding, which has been true for all such reports of which I’m aware, is that lesbians are more likely to be victims of domestic abuse than straight women. Damn those patriarchs for forcing lesbians to abuse other women!

‘My ability to see depends on men giving blood’

Our thanks to Groan for this. He writes:

I don’t like how feminism has made one see things through oppositional glasses. But this caught my eyes about blood donors. It appears male blood has more iron and other benefits and so the NHS wants more male donors. “Naturally” the story to encourage male donors is about helping women, I say naturally as
we all know men are far more likely to queue up to help women and children than other men!

The other thing not mentioned is the way that all health services are designed around women’s lives. In this case when you can donate. My children are donors. However the two “boys”, now men in work, have found it
difficult to get time for the appointments now. They work in the private sector. As with so many health services they are shut outside of normal work hours.

Now having been a public service worker I know it is easier to get the time for such appointments, and those services are nearly 80% female. So a practical means of getting men to donate would be simply to arrange donor sessions is “unsocial” hours, which my two sons would happily attend.

So the story has the double standards, males are physically different, men are expected and willing to help women and this is a commonly used lever, health services are unavailable to be used or receive donations outside the common work hours hence men use services and donate less.
