The time is ripe for significant conferences away from London and the South East. Two previous International Conferences on Men’s Issues were held in London (2016 and 2018) in part because of demographic considerations – notably Greater London’s population of 8+ million people – as well as other reasons.
An announcement will be made shortly about the future of the ICMI series. In the meantime I’d like to start exploring the viability of a National Conference on Men’s Issues conference in the north of England on a Sunday in May 2020. The month has been chosen because it’s six months away from the Messages 4 Men conference, over which I exercise no control (although Elizabeth Hobson is one of the key organizers, along with Natty).
Before we start seeking potential venues, we need to get a sense of potential interest in the event. Please let us have your thoughts on a conference in the north of England, including whether you’d attend a conference if the content and ticket prices are acceptable to you. Either post a comment on this blog piece, or email us ([email protected]). Suggestions of potential venues, including hotels, would be appreciated. Let us know if you’re willing to volunteer to help at the event (or before it), we’ll be giving free passes to volunteers who request them. And do let us know if you’re prepared to help financially underwrite the event.
The talks will be recorded for later posting on our YouTube channel. If the conference is the success we predict, we’ll consider making it a regular annual event, and move it around the UK (and possibly Ireland). Thanks.
