Our thanks to Douglas for this:
Lambeth Council are operating a financial redress scheme for all children who were either abused or feared being abused while staying at a Lambeth Children’s Home or Shirley Oaks Primary School. Although men are commonly overlooked in terms of emotional and mental harm, anyone of either sex is encouraged to make a claim. Thousands of claims are expected.
The scheme is open to the end of this year but delay should be avoided.
The homes involved for the purposes of this Scheme are:
2.Almond House Hostel
5.Chestnut Road/ Robson Road
12.Ivy House/ Warham Road
16.Leigham Court Road
22.Rectory Grove/ Elaine Claire House
26.Southwood Discharge Hostel
If you need help with going through the process of claiming, your local Citizens Advice bureau are likely to be able to help.
For emotional and mental support, other than your usual channels, ManKind Initiative are there for all men in the UK.
If you are in desperate need to talk to someone, the Samaritans are probably the best to contact: http://samaritans.org telephone 08457 116 123.
Please note that if you are male many of the other crisis lines promoted may not be suitable for you, though you should contact them if you wish.
Details of the scheme are available on the Lambeth Council website.
If you suffered abuse at another children’s home, your could get redress but this would likely have to be done through the courts or by involving a solicitor.
