Yesterday we published a short blog piece concerning a male cyclist and a female cyclist taking very different approaches to a barrier in their way. Our blog piece on the matter, with a link to the 30-second video, is here. Our thanks to Mike P, a valued regular commenter, for his thoughts on the matter:
Well, this says it all. See how even male cyclists oppress women?
It’s pouring with rain, wet and cold, she’s made to cycle through mud, forced to lift her bike over an obstruction, while he’s allowed to just duck under it leaving her to struggle, abandoned and on her own.
How’s that fair?
Not content with this grotesque display of Patriarchal Privilege, he returns to gloat and mock by pretending she can’t lift the bike on her own, and mansplains – by example – how it’s done. Departing once more, he leaves her behind and alone.
And clock this bit.
I notice she has no map – he must have taken it for himself, there’s no other answer.
Even if she DID have one, it will have been designed and laid out in a simple two-dimensional picto-interface form showing merely actual geographical features that only the emotionally crippled males can understand, and without any regard whatsoever for how that might make her FEEL, or even if textural colour layers match.
It’s time for Sistas to stand together and call out misogynistic, white male heteronormative patriarchal and systematic Rape Cycling.
