On 29 November 2018, Philip Davies made some powerful points about the illegality of MGM, during his introduction to the debate commemorating International Men’s Day. Elizabeth Hobson published those comments on this blog shortly afterwards, along with a link to the Hansard record – here. The Glass Blind Spot edited the video footage to just the comments Philip made, here (4:27).
Victoria Atkins MP, Minister for Women, committed herself at the end of the debate to responding, and it’s taken her almost six weeks to do so. Her outrageous response is here. It’s full of errors and misleading statements, as we’d expect, including this ludicrous “argument by assertion”:
The practice of male circumcision is not an offence in the UK.
And how about this humdinger?
The UK is a world leader on religious freedom and that means allowing male circumcision under religious rules. But these are qualified rights and the safety of the child must always be the priority.
We hope Philip will respond to the letter with the force it deserves.
