Free Screening of “American Circumcision” – Oxford Town Hall, 29 November

It’s come to our attention that the Oxford Men’s Group is putting on a free screening of the award-winning film American Circumcision at 7pm, Thursday, 29 November, Oxford Town Hall. Details here. We screened the film at the July conference in London, and it was very well received. It has yet to be made commercially available outside North America, so this is a golden opportunity to see an important film on an important issue. I’m personally unable to attend, unfortunately.

The latest press release from Penny Mordaunt MP, Minister for Women and Equalities

Appalling. The following extract should tell you all you need to know:

Ms Mordaunt will highlight that in the UK today:

Around 1.8 million women are currently economically inactive because they are caring for their home or family, more than 8 times the number of men in that position

Economically inactive women, caring for their home or family? Outrageous. Shouldn’t be allowed.

‘Lacy underwear’ protest on sexual consent in Oxford tomorrow

Our thanks to Michael for this. An extract:

Tomorrow’s event will start at 3.30pm with a short speech by Miss Streets, before the underwear flash and a series of poetry readings and members of the protest sharing their experiences and opinions.

A minute’s silence will then be held.

We’ve asked Michael to video record the “underwear flash” and the minute’s silence (who, in their right minds, would be interested in Miss Street’s speech, or the “series of poetry readings and members of the protest sharing their experiences and opinions”?) But feminists being silent for a minute? Inconceivable. That would surely become a viral video.

BIRMINGHAM: Mohammad Siddiqui arrested over alleged circumcision assaults

Our thanks to Chris for this piece published by The Guardian in July. The end of the piece:

DCI Fiona Bitters, of Hampshire police, said: “This is a large investigation and we are already speaking to a number of people in relation to these allegations, however we would like to speak to anyone who may have information that can help us with our investigation or is concerned about a procedure which has taken place privately since 2015.

“We are asking parents or guardians of boys circumcised, or healthcare workers, who have concerns about the procedure, the aftercare provided, or the recovery to come forward.

“We are not investigating the practice of circumcision. [J4MB: Why not? It’s a crime.] We are investigating if any criminality took place relating to an individual’s actions when undertaking this procedure or the aftercare provided.” [J4MB: … whilst ignoring the criminality of the circumcision itself.]

Heidi Allen (C, South Cambridgeshire), first elected in 2015, forgot she was an MP in 2016

Enjoy. From her Wikipedia page:

On 5 December 2016, Allen announced her intention to put her name forward for the Conservative nomination for the election of Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in May 2017. Allen proposed to combine the role with her current position as MP for South Cambridgeshire.

We need more female MPs.

Sir Steve House, assistant Met commissioner: “People should only help officers dealing with violent suspects if they can safely do so”

Our thanks to a supporter for this. Sir Steve House’s statements are surely driven by concerns over legal actions by members of the public who’ve been injured whilst helping officers – especially men who’ve come to the aid of female officers (because women won’t). If a police officer needs help dealing with a violent person, how can it be “safe” to help that police officer? Absurd.

Cressida Dick wishes to see women occupy 50% of posts in the Met. The reduced number of men will inevitably still have to deal with the same amount of physical violence, leading to them taking on disproportionately more risk, while the female officers hang around in the background, as they invariably do. Still, a small price to pay to get more wimmin into uniform, eh?

Male unemployment has long been higher than female unemployment, and such initiatives as Cressida Dick’s can only increase the difference. Unemployment is a major driver of male suicide, but not female suicide. So the initiative will lead to men ending their own lives.

Juries have no place in rape trials

Julie Bindel #TriggerWarning!

Ann Coffey, Labour MP, has suggested doing away with juries in rape trials – in order to increase convictions. Bindel makes the useful suggestion that a “panel of assessors” with special training might replace traditional juries. I wonder who would provide such training?

Did a US judge just make FGM legal? An explainer by Brian D Earp

Excellent and informative video (7:02) explaining why the federal FGM law was struck down as unconstitutional by Judge Bernard Friedman – how it is still illegal under assault legislation, and child abuse legislation (in many states) – and how this was an inevitable step and could ultimately be a positive step towards protecting all children inclusively from genital mutilation.
