Wireless Festival 2018: Lily Allen and Annie Mac criticise lack of women

Our thanks to Stu for this piece on the BBC website, The start:

Wireless Festival has been criticised for a lack of women in the line-up for this year’s festival.

Singer Lily Allen said the “struggle is real” for female artists while Radio 1’s Annie Mac described it as “appalling”.

Only three women – Mabel, Cardi B and Lisa Mercedez [J4MB: We have all their LPs] – are among the 37 acts announced for the festival which takes place in July.

Wireless told Newsbeat it had no comment on the issue.

Stu writes:

Hi Mike, BBC making a fuss about lack of female artists appearing at Wireless festival, usual suspects Lily Allen and so on.

For most of this article the BBC insist that Wireless had made no comment on the matter, until the last line, quote below.

Wireless told Newsbeat it has no comment on the response to its line-up, adding that “tickets sold out in 24-hours”.

  1. “tickets sold out in 24-hours”. This is why the licence fee should go and all state funding be withdrawn from whole areas of life. Just let folk pay for what they want to see. And see how that pans out. Even Art Galleries. If the Manchester Gallery charged again I bet folk would be mightily p….d off if the famous paintings there were off the walls. It was very noticeable when made “free” the “old favourites” usually Victorian/Edwardian figurative sculpture and art, landscapes etc. got reduced to make way for more stuff folk “wouldn’t give houseroom to”. Of course the irony is the merchandise is still all the old favourites, even those not now on show!
One wouldn’t shut up the whingers but at least without state money to back them up the rest of us could still get on with real life.

  2. It goes without saying, or should, that there are sufficient female performers of sufficient ability to fill half the slots on the programme, and that paying customers are prepared to shell out to see them, and therefore they must have been discriminated against.

Here, try these clitoris tinted spectacles and you should be able to see that.
